The Reel Rejects have walked a long and torrid road in the Schmoedown. When they are not voluntarily putting their head between the bared teeth of the Wolves of Steel by offering them ‘Spinner’s Choice’ when they spin ‘Opponent’s’, they are encountering five point questions like ‘In what state was the much vaunted and discussed classic of 90’s cinema Clay Pigeons set?’.

Reel RejectsLuck and judgement somehow forever eludes them when they step into the ring, meaning their 1-3 record perhaps does not reflect their actual ability,

The mystifying thing about it is Greg Alba and John Humphrey are good players. Humphrey’s 11-round run in the Free 4 All was maybe the most pleasantly surprising moment in the 2017 season of the Schmoedown, as a player coming from nowhere outlasted some much more vaunted names like Jeff Sneider, Mark Reilly and Mark Ellis.

Humprhey’s singles debut did not go exactly to plan as he lost out heavily to Marc Andreyko, but in scoring 23 points as a team in their defeat to Double Toasted was enough to suggest that a corner is being turned. Humphrey in particular crushed the Christopher Nolan category within that match and the pair seem to do very well when it comes to new releases and movies from the 90’s and 00’s. They do, however, have a knack of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and it is perhaps this more than anything that has seen them build a cult following within the Schmoedown’s fandom.

Such support has likely also kept their head’s from the block in terms of retirement matches. Having survived their first ‘Loser Splits-Up’ bout against the Wangers, their record suggests that they may have to again fight for their spot within the league at some point soon. Whether the Commissioner sees them as to valuable to lose, however, remains to be seen.
